More Than A Racehorse . . .

More Than A Racehorse was founded on the idea that there's more to life than the path you start out on. Not every racehorse ends up winning the Triple Crown or having a breeding career after the days of post times and starting gates are over. More Than A Racehorse offers a second chance for off the track Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. Some have been retired after successful careers, some have recovered from injuries that prevented them from racing again, some were groomed for the track, but decided they weren't racers, and all of them are looking for a new start.

After making their way to us, these amazing animals are retrained and introduced to life off the track. Using natural horsemannship techniques, they are taught basic skills needed to start a new career, whether it be pleasure trail riding, driving under harness, showing and competing, or even being just a pasture pet. Each horse continues it's training until it can be adopted by a loving new family.

More Than A Racehorse works closely with Equine Encore Foundation, a non profit organization that offers a safe harbor for retired racers who cannot start a new career due to injury, or have been permanently retired after their days of racing. Proceeds from the adoption of horses through More Than A Racehorse are given back to Equine Encore, making the continued support of fellow equine athletes possible.
